This is only a snapshot of the rapidly changing situation. Please refer to the references, along with their links, for the current status.

"If you are 12 years and older, you must wear a face mask at airports or on domestic or international flights departing or arriving in Queensland."

"If you have been in South East Queensland since 1am 29 June 2021, you must carry a face mask with you at all times — unless 14 days have passed since you were last in the area. You must wear a face mask when you leave home in most indoor and outdoor spaces — unless you have a lawful reason not to."

"Anyone entering Queensland needs to complete an online travel declaration at"

Arriving from Victoria

All of Victoria is now a hotspot.

Any Queenslanders returning after that time will have to complete 14 days mandatory quarantine."  (NB the ref above does not say what type of quarantine.)

Brisbane and some surrounding regions have other travel restrictions for Victorian residents. (Refer to ref for detals).

Arriving from New South Wales

All of New South Wales is a declared COVID-19 hotspot, with a start date of 23 July 2021.

Anyone who has been a hotspot since its start date will not be allowed to enter Queensland — unless they are a Queensland resident or have an exemption. If you’re allowed to enter Queensland, you must complete 14 days of hotel quarantine at your own expense.

Arriving from South Australia

South Australia was declared a hotspot from 1:00am, Thursday 22 July 2021. Visitors from South Australia will be not be able to enter Queensland (unless they are a returning Queensland resident, in which case they will need to complete 14 days hotel quarantine).

Arriving from Western Australia

A hard border has been in place since June 29. WA residents returning home from QLD may be eligible for an exemption on compassionate grounds. You should apply for this exemption when you submit your G2G application to travel to WA.

As a consequence of these restrictions there are many cancelled and amended flights to and from Cairns.

Given the current exceptional circumstances, you may be reluctant to initiate travel arrangements.

Be assured that any booking that is cancelled outside 24 hours of intended time of travel will receive a 100% refund.

The requirement to wear masks in Queensland has not been completely removed.

  • They are recommended for:
    • indoors
    • traveling on public transport, taxis, rideshare
