The announcement last week that the borders between Greater Sydney and Queensland would remained closed until at least December 1st was another tough blow for our tourism industry. Five million Sydney-siders are precluded from visiting Queensland.

Premier Premier Palaszczuk announced: "Queensland’s border will further open to New South Wales from 1:00am AEST, this coming Tuesday 3 November. While the Greater Sydney region (32 Local Government Areas) will remain declared hotspots, the border will open to the remaining parts of New South Wales."

Travelers from these regions can come to Queensland for any reason, and may travel via Sydney Airport as long as they travel directly there, and do not leave the airport except on their departing flight. A border pass declaration is still required.

Queensland remains open to the ACT. There are no direct CBR/CNS flights but a steady stream of visitors are transiting through the Sunshine Coast or Brisbane..

The overall number of flights to/from Cairns has been steady for the last few weeks.  Pleasingly, the Brisbane/Cairns route remains the busiest Australian route.

Full details of flights to and from Cairns are here: COVID/Flights and Transfers.
